                            Awards two scholarships totaling $5,000

Vietnam Veterans of America Southern New Jersey Chapter 1068 is pleased to announce two scholarship awards, each in the amount of $2,500. Two deserving high school seniors, one from Sterling High School and one from Cherry Hill West, will be receiving the awards at upcoming ceremonies conducted by their schools. The scholarships, in honor of Andrew F. “Doc” Jensen, are awarded annually as two scholarships in the amount of $2,500 each. To qualify Applicants must include a brief essay indicating how the applicant’s Vietnam veteran (or other combat veteran) relative had a positive influence on them, changed their life in some way, and/or was someone they frequently looked up to.

The scholarship is in honor of “Doc” Jensen, a Navy Chaplain who served 26 years active duty, including tours in Vietnam, and then went on to earn Masters and Doctorate degrees in psychology to continue his work for veterans and their families. He was an advocate, a crusader, a counselor, a pillar of faith, a friend and fellow Vietnam Veteran. He fought for veteran’s rights, benefits and the well-being of all veterans and their families. He showed us how to be proud of our military service and to be respectful and supportive of the new Veterans coming home, a man to pattern the way we live the rest of our lives.
